South Pacific
Whenever the words South Pacific are raised, we naturally recall the Broadway Musical and the beautiful island scenes of French Polynesia, but in reality, the South Pacific refers to a much broader collection of islands which stretch across the Pacific Ocean from New Zealand to Hawaii. Between 20,000 and 30,000 islands may be found here, generally lying south of the tropic of Cancer and usually grouped into three divisions: Polynesia, Melanesia and Micronesia.
South Pacific travel focuses on vacation islands like Tahiti, Moorea, Bora Bora, Rapa Nui, Rarotonga, Aitutaki, Tongatapu, Vavau, Tutuila, Upolu, and Savaii in Polynesia. New Caledonia, Vanuatu and Guadalcanal are included in Melanesia while Micronesia is composed of the Marshall, Caroline, Mariana and Gilbert groups.
